Twenty plus years ago my dad died unexpectedly while having surgery. A couple of days later our family was in mom’s living room planning his funeral and the pastor asked for some words he could use to describe my dad at the memorial service. My brother-in-law, who always had an intriguing point of view, said it was the absence of unkindness that he remembered most. Notice he didn’t say Dad was always kind. But he was never (at least rarely) UNkind.
That’s just one more way I long to be more like my dad; to live my life with the absence of unkindness.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. – Galatians 5:22-23
